MY LIFE IN ART:
I have enjoyed creating new things ever since my aunt taught me how to cross-stitch when I was eleven years old. From there I went on to paper crafts, weaving, quilting, knitting, and making clothes. I also draw and paint from time to time, though I have never had any formal painting classes.
My favorite forms of creative expression are art and story quilts, and recreating broderie perse, an 18th century appliqué technique for quilts.
I have two favorite art projects that I've done so far. One was recreating a set of ancient Egyptian canopic jars out of various paper mediums in my fiber arts class in college. The other was making story quilts for my parents and my mother-in-law when my husband and I got married.
There is nothing quite like the thrill of creating something in the visual realm that started out as an idea in my head... My goal is to eventually achieve at least an associate's degree in art, whether I end up doing anything professional with it or not. I just want to get better at doing something I find fulfilling!
